Exams

Dr. McCarty provides eye exams for all age groups, from the child to the senior.  Different tests and procedures are used depending on each patient’s needs, and all patients receive the same excellent standard of care.

20/20

What is 20/20 vision? 20/20 vision is a term used to express normal visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet. If you have 20/20 vision, you can clearly see objects from 20 feet away that should be seen from that distance. If you have 20/100 vision, you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet. Doctors of optometry are the primary health care professionals for the eye. We examine, diagnose, treat, and manage diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye, and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions affecting the eye. At Cedar Park Eye Care, we can make your future look clear.

Eye examinations should not be stressful.  Relax - just answer the questions the best you can and don’t worry.  The doctor will sort through the data to find the very best solution.  Our examination instruments may be different than some you have seen before.  Patients often comment on the sophisticated instruments we use.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

A comprehensive eye exam will evaluate how well you see, and identify any potential eye diseases. Often patients with certain eye diseases don't experience any visual symptoms before vision loss occurs.
Your exam may include one or more of the following:

  • Visual acuity and refraction test to determine the degree to which you may be nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism.
  • Color vision screening to see if you perceive colors properly.
  • Muscle function test to check the movement of your eyes in all directions. This test will identify any muscle weakness or involuntary eye movement.
  • Binocular vision assessment to ensure that your eyes work together properly as a team. This is important for proper depth perception, eye muscle coordination, and the ability to change focus from near to far objects.
  • Eye pressure test. Your doctor may administer one or more tests to evaluate your intra-ocular pressure. High intra-ocular pressure may be a sign of glaucoma.
  • Eye health assessment. Your doctor will use special instruments to evaluate the health of structures of the eye including cornea, lens, optic nerve and retina.
  • Visual field test to measure your peripheral vision, the area to the sides when you're looking straight ahead.
Appropriate treatment options, if necessary, will be presented at the conclusion of your examination.
